A soul stirring experience indeed, all of us took something back home after the visit...
It all started as a group event. We, a group of 47 from UST Global had a visit to the orphanage the so called “Home for Girls”, Abhaya Bala at Peyad. Our primary motive was to make “The little lilies smile”. Little did we know, that a small experience would leave such a huge impact on each one of us, as individuals, as human beings..!
It was a Saturday morning, the logistics and list of items to be donated were in place, and we all had started from home in the hope of making the project a huge success.. The climate was too good, and few of us were restless already.
And then it happened. We entered a room full of children, as chirpy as the birds in a garden, as pretty as blossoming rose buds. Their eyes sparkled at the sight of a bunch of people smiling, enter into the room. A few of them mixed up with us like some of us had visited them every week, while a few of them were sitting in the distant corner, staring straight into our eyes, piercing our souls.
Despite all their liveliness, we could somehow sense the distant pain, the longing to have someone who would not just visit them once a month or year, but take care of them forever..! It indeed moved each one of us to witness those little ones, disowned and dejected, those little ones who deserved so much more in life, who were capable of being the Kalpana Chawlas and Pratibha Patils of the future..!
They participated enthusiastically and enjoyed the games which was organized for them. Also they enjoyed the lunch(“Onam Sadya”) sponsored by UST Global.
They danced, sang songs and enjoyed the whole day. At the end before leaving we handed over the gift, color TV’s to them and they looked us with gratitude. Before end of the day, prizes were distributed for the games which was organized.
And when we came out of the orphanage, the entire team earned something much more valuable which would indeed stay with them forever..!
